January 13

Today in class, we watched more on the North Korea video. It talked about how they have interment camps scattered across the country. They have a family interment camp called 22, and most of the time not meant for people who do the crimes. The people in these camps get worked to death and get diseases easily. North Korea will not be the same without the camps, because they need to fright the people. Some people try to escape and go to China, and smugglers will lead them. It is dangerous to try to escape, because you could have to go to prison camp or get killed. The smugglers will lead them the right direction, and tell them the places to avoid on the way to China.

The video goes back to the cataract procedures and the doctor achieves his goal of operating on 1,000 patients. The patients remove their bandages, and they can see again. It is crazy how these people go completely blind, to be able to see again. They would praise the Great Leader, because it was the first time they saw them. They thank the Great Leader and give him complete credit. All of the patients would scream "We praise you!"

January 9

Today in class we continued to watch the film about North and South Korea. We learned about how the Americans donated cataract machines and a doctor would do procedures for hundreds of blind people a day. When the doctor would do these procedures, they could be able to see again. He saved a lot of lives.

We also learned about how North Korea is very isolated with other countries. They have no electricity and cell phones are banned from the country. North Korea ignores South and refused to attend meetings held in a room held in half of the South and half in the North. South Korea gets frustrated with this, and has to use a horn to yell the message over. The reason they do not attend is because Kim Jong-Ill did not tell them to, therefore they do not.

They interviewed a family in North Korea and asked if King Jong-Ill can do anything bad or if they can look at him bad. They said that Kim Jong-Ill is perfect and that if it wasn't for him, they would be dead. Another question was about North Korea compared to America and said they they are stronger than American and that they have the greatest leader and how America can do nothing. The film also mentioned a word, juche which means "self-reliance" and a form of religion in North Korea.

January 7

Today in class we started watching a film about North and South Korea. We learned about their cultural and how the North and South are not neighborly. In North America, they do not have any lights or electricity, so at night it is very dark. I looked up pictures of North Korea at night, and it was almost like North Korea was apart of the ocean.

From very young ages, North Koreans were learned to love their leader. Everyone in the country has to love their leader and listen to whatever he says. They are controlled by their leader and look up to Kim Jong-Ill. Everyone has pictures in their houses of their leaders and bow to them. It is kind of weird how the Koreans are so obsessed with him. They say he does nothing wrong and they respect him for keeping them alive.

We had to stop the film right when they were starting to talk about cataracts and helping the blind.

December 12

Today in class, we got back two tests and reviewed them for the exam. We read the answers in class, and I corrected my paper. I knew some of my mistakes and made sure I went over them for the exam. Our first exam is Tuesday and we have Human Geo. I hope to get a good grade on the exam and will study very hard. This should be a very hard week, but at least we get out early!

December 10

Today in class, we took our cultural test. The first questions included questions from Slumdog Millionaire, and I tried to remember them. I remembered that Benjamin Franklin is on the $100 bill. The hardest part was the abbreviations meaning different things, and I think I got most of those wrong. The last part of the test was to choose a religion to go with a statement. Some were hard to remember, and I was hoping I did well on that section. After I finished the test, Mr. Schick went to go check the papers. He called us up and we all got to know our grade. I know I didn't do well, and was scared to see my grade. I got a 73%, but at least I passed instead of failing. Hopefully I will do well on the exam next week!
